Our First Workshop Went Like...!

Here's the story of the QuAIT's first workshop with its peaks and valleys. It took a team of 6 members and active participation from the students of SRI INDU College Of Engineering and Technology(Hyderabad), to make this workshop a success! Wanna know the full story? Read to know more!

THE TEAM:

First of all! the team that has toiled day and night for the workshop.

T. RISHWI (CEO)
T.NITHYA (AI Researcher)
A. SAI KUMAR (APP Developer)
RAGHAVENDRA(Software Developer)
M. SREENIDHI IYENGAR (AI & ML Engineer)
V HARIKA (Quantum Researcher)

THE PURPOSE:

We know for a fact that Engineering students always want to learn something new but also are a bit lazy when it comes to the traditional way of learning things. So we came up with an idea to conduct a 2-day workshop, where we can share our knowledge on the basics of ML/AI to the passionate students who are willing to put an all-out effort in learning new technologies.

And that's when we got to know that SRI INDU College's conducting a technical fest and we were ready to take up the opportunity that came our way.

THE COLLABORATION:

We collaborated with the "Google Developer Groups" community to get students excited. Collaborations and communities make the work more interesting and engaging. We thank GDG for collaborating with us and also for encouraging the students with the schwags!!!

Taking up an opportunity comes with a lot of problems and so we had ours too, we were a team of 5 who had to train a crowd of 120 students among whom 80% of the people know neither day nor night about ML/AI. So we've decided to keep it simple and comprehensible.

THE D-DAY:

With a lot of emotions mixed and high expectations, we have started the workshop with 120 students.
We had a hunch that giving away goodies right in the start would be an amazing way to start off the workshop because you know goodies and all? Who doesn't love free gifts?

First off  T. Rishwi (CEO of QuAIT), had given a brief intro about the company and the things we've planned for them for the next 2 days. He also introduced them to python so that it'd be easy for them to pick up the pace in the latter part.

And then T. Nithya( AI RESEARCHER for QuAIT) gave an exceptional session starting with the introduction to ML and has covered the usage of ML, complexity in the implementation and a hands on session on basic topics like "Regression" in ML. By the end of the day we could see that students were really amazed with the hands-on session rather than the teaching part.
I mean who doesn't love to see the output without errors?

And to spice up things we've added a few surprise rapid-fire rounds in between the sessions and gave away the google badges to those who won. They were pretty much excited then and started working harder on the concepts. And that's how day-1 has come to an end.

THE SECOND DAY:

On the second day, the first half of the session was taken up by Nithya again and this time she's impressed many of the students with her extraordinary "teaching-with-humor" thing and has inculcated the subject into the brains of the attendees so deep that each one of the 120 has executed the code. With her jovial method of teaching, She made the learning a fun game rather than a heated up lecture.

Then right before the mid-day break is when we conducted a quiz and again distributed the google t-shirts, that bought a bit of expression on the tired faces of the students.

The next session was taken up by Harika, where she managed to cover Classification followed by a hands-on session and an introduction to Neural Networks.

The remaining team (Sai Kumar & Raghavendra) acted as a backbone to the entire workshop by helping the students resolve the code errors and also ensuring the active participation of the audience in the quizzes by making sure everyone gets a chance to answer and every right answer gets a goodie. They really made the session a piece of cake for the speaker by managing the students so well.

Don't you think it's about time we talk about the students? Who were the major part in making the event successful! They were literally the best crowd we've ever met. Their doubts made the session gripping and their determination is what made the event successful. So the session almost came to an end with the happiness on their faces for successfully learning something new, and the enthusiasm in their hearts to learn more and to keep learning.

THE "GOODBYE!"

We didn't want to leave the amazing audience without a surprise, so in the end, we've conducted an idea-hackathon, where the students had to come up with the solutions for real-time problems using ML, AI.
Their ideas were so stunning that we couldn't announce only one winning team, so we've given away the QuAIT T-shirts for two winning teams!

THE CONCLUSION:

But whatever may be the challenges, together we faced everything and were really delighted to have successfully trained 120 students. Their overwhelming reviews alleviated our effort and stress.

All in all, it turned out to be a remarkable journey, which was the stepping stone for success and the professional growth of the company! We're really looking forward to conducting more such workshops in the near future.
